Chat Series: Journey Shares

12:00-4:15pm, ~25 individuals

Join small groups to hear from folks at different points in their career about how they got to where they are and the challenges along the way.

These are not lectures. Journey shares are meant to help people of any age, especially our young people, hear the story of how folks got to be where they are today — whether they're just starting out or have been at it for a while. Our careers take a path of discovery and often trial and error. Hearing the ins and outs, ups and downs will help others see they can build a career and not have to know everything at the start.

People don’t fit in boxes. Artists are also organizers. Entrepreneurs are also caregivers. And not everything “looks like” a climate job. You’ll find that your facilitators weave across categories — just like you do — and challenge the silos of climate and environmental justice. Consider sitting in on jobs you've never heard of. Each circle will run for around 40 minutes, including Q&A. Start thinking about what questions you might want to ask! Here are a few we’ve seeded.

  • Where do you work currently and for how long? Do you have any “side-hustles” or “moonlight” doing anything else?

  • What was your first job that you’d say marked the start of your “career”?

  • Was there a pivotal moment(s) in your journey where you made a choice or met a person that changed your planned trajectory?

  • What does your job or skill set have to do with climate action, environmental work and/or climate justice or justice?

  • Your best advice to younger people early in their journeys? OR, what advice would you have given your younger self at the same ages as the attendees in your circle?
