Democracy at Work Institute

The Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI)  is a movement-based think-and-do tank creating and building more inclusive and democratic businesses and workplaces, and supporting worker cooperatives to grow to a scale that creates meaningful change in our economy.

DAWI uses the worker cooperative business model as a tool for shared and inclusive entrepreneurship and wealth building in communities most directly affected by social and economic inequality.

DAWI offers pro bono support for NYC entrepreneurs and community organizations interested in the worker cooperative business model through the Worker Cooperative Business Development Initiative, in partnership with NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), with support from New York City Council. Through our School for Democratic Management, we offer free online courses teaching the principles of participatory management and creating more democratic workplaces.
