Time Bank

Street Works is creating a time bank(s) for Queens, starting with Jackson Heights, which is near where many of our community members live. Our purpose is to build a just, welcoming community in and around Jackson Heights, where neighbors can rely on one another to meet needs, face challenges, and build relationships that make us more connected and resilient.

We do this through a time bank: a neighbor- to-neighbor system where people exchange skills, care, and practical help using time instead of money. Every hour you give earns a time credit that can be used within the network to receive community support, language practice, cooking, design, or caretaking. Read our full purpose statement below.

01/11/26 @1:30pm: Exploring a community timebank

Initiated by Meredith Faltin, we’re exploring what it would take to start a neighborhood timebank, a system where one hour of your help = one hour of someone else’s help. We don’t need to exchange money to support one another!
