Kareena’s Closet

Kareena's Closet transforms underutilized ethnic attire from a waste stream into a shared resource — addressing the "wear-it-once" dilemma of high-cost South Asian garments.

KC was created to deliver a diverse and inclusive range of South Asian formalwear and accessories, stylish rental and pre-loved sales options at a fraction of the retail cost, and a more environmentally-sustainable approach to fashion.

From Cocktail Conversation to Community

Kareena's Closet (KC) was born from a cocktail conversation between two friends in New York City, Veena Jayadeva and Sucheta Sachdev, who were commiserating (for the nth time) about the challenges of South Asian wedding fashion.

They were sick of the "wear-it-once" dilemma, turning to the same formalwear repeatedly, and seeing a dent in their wallets from purchasing high-end outfits for multi-day celebrations.

They recognized the combined problems of constantly-changing trends, limited closet space, and the growing call for more eco-conscious consumerism. While friends can share outfits, they envisioned something bigger: the opportunity to join a community of like-minded women and tap into one another's closets, regardless of where they live.
